About us

History

Arthur Murray himself began teaching people to dance in 1912 and opened his first studio in 1923 on 43rd Street in New York City. He remains a true pioneer of social dance.

Arthur Murray wanted to teach the world to dance. His first mail order business involved selling dance lessons using a kinetoscope (a device that showed moving images inside a box by advancing a strip of film). Unfortunately the device was not suitable for mail order, with many arriving damaged. His second mail order business involved Arthur Murray's now famous "footprints" whereby dancers placed their feet on the floor and followed various patterns to learn to dance. In 1925 he launched his third business and began selling dance lessons through the franchising model. He trained instructors at various hotels who went on to give dance lessons themselves.

The power of dance

"If you can walk, we'll teach you how to dance." - Arthur Murray

After World War II, the business experienced rapid growth as interest in Latin dances increased. Arthur taught and broadcast in Cuba and appeared regularly on numerous television programs with his wife, Kathryn Murray. The couple retired in 1964, but the business continued to grow and expand. In 2012, Arthur Murray celebrated 100 years of teaching dance around the world and today there are over 300 Arthur Murray locations in 21 countries around the world.

We dance because it's fun, that's reason enough. People like to dance; they are born with a deep love for rhythm and movement.

Arthur Murray Milan

Elegant and historic Dance Studio

Arthur Murray Milan is one of the main Arthur Murray franchise schools in Italy. The building is located in an elegant and historic context in the beating heart of Milan and has one of the last real wood dance floors, which absorbs the impact from the feet to the body, ensuring comfort for our students during learning and dance. The structure of the School is divided into several generous areas to allow private lessons to take place independently of group lessons.

Daniele & Amanda, our Franchisees, are extremely proud of this iconic Dance Studio.
